About William

William was only 10 years old when he received his first publishing deal with

 Nordberg Press. He wrote his first book, “The Warrior and the Golden

Dragon and other stories followed by Oscar The Flea, which was turned into

an animated feature children’s movie and went on to win the Grand Prize for

the Royal Starr Film Festival Award for High School Students, which

included a full expenses paid visit to Paramount Studios, a new high

 technology studio for film making and storytelling along with funding

and scholarships.

 

William Drake Lee went on to receive a merit scholarship to study at

 Interlochen’s Screen writing program, where his writing received the Best

 Screenplay Award garnering him a $10K Scholarship to further his studies

 in Creative Writing at Interlochen.

 

William has also been a published author in Blackberry Winter’s Shades of

Blue, where he was a Dual Enrollment Honors student balancing high school

 courses and college curriculum courses at Rochester University. His

creative writing was featured in the publication while still in high school.

 

An avid golfer, William won the PGA Junior League Golf Tournaments at

 Sanctuary Lake and qualified to the Michigan State Championships in

Alma, MI. Winning the Junior PGA tournament qualified him to the IGTA

Team USA Junior Golf Team for which he was the youngest member to play

against Team Canada and Team Scotland at The St. Andrew’s Golf Course

in St. Andrews Links in Scotland northeast of Edinburgh, where his golf team

 trained and stayed at The University of St. Andrews. William also placed 1st

 overall at the Michigan MACS Golf Tournament for the BCS Golf Team,

leading his golf team to the championships. William has also performed as

 Principal Cellist of the BCS Chamber Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony

Youth Orchestra and was a member of the Audivi and Opera Modo Choir this

last season appearing with The Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s performances

 at The Max. M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center at Orchestra Hall

performing Ludwig Van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 and Hannah Lash’s “In

Hopes of Finding the Sun” under Music Director Jader Bignamini.

 

William won the Grand Prix awards at the Carnegie Hall Young Artists

 Competitions, where he sang as part of their recital series from 2016-2020.

He was selected to also sing in the one-act RISE FOR FREEDOM: The John P.

Parker Story, in the Spring of 2022. William is most proud of volunteering

with the University of Michigan’s Men’s Glee Club, where he donated his

 time and resources in bringing literacy and teaching at the Milan Prison

with his fellow Michigan students to bring workshops to the inmates.

William has had his plays performed at The Walgreen Centerin Acting

workshops at The University of Michigan, along with The Interlochen

Center for the Arts with collaborative actors and actresses. His literary

Senior year at The University of Michigan as an undergraduate student

where he is set to graduate this April 2023 with his Bachelor degree.

 

William Drake Lee was recently inducted into the University of Michigan

(UM Ann Arbor) NSCS Chapter of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.
